Want to have good time? Look for a book that you like a lot. Got it? Perfect! Look for a sheet of paper and a pencil and sit in a comfortable chair next to a table or a desk. Now, choose the character that you liked the most  of that book. It doesn't have to be the main character... it can be a dog or even the villain because, many times, villains can be fun. Next, imagine that you're that character and you have a big problem, you have to solve it, so you're going to write a letter to someone who can help you solve it. What's the problem you're in? Who will you write to? What will that person or being suggest? Will you do it or not? Give your imagination wings even if you come up with really crazy things. I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun.

Attending the ALA Annual Conference this month?  You are invited to attend  "Cuéntame un Cuentito,"  a cross border look at Spanish children's books from Mexico and the U.S.  The panel will be part of the REFORMA program on Saturday, June 29th.

Presenters include:
Judy Goldman, children’s author from Mexico who has published a number of books in both Mexico and the U.S.
René Saldaña, Jr, children's and YA author and associate professor of language and literacy at Texas Tech University.
Tim Wadham, Director of the Puyallup Public Library and author of  School Library Journal column “Libro por Libro."
Pam Fochtman, President of Lorito Books, will moderate.

Whiskers, Tails and Wings-Animal Folktales from Mexico

This is the cover of one of my four books coming out this year. Charlesbridge is my publisher of Whiskers, Tails and Wings-Animal Folktales from Mexico and the very talented Fabricio Vanden Broeck did the illustrations. The book will be on sale in August but, in the meantime, you can enjoy the cover. How many animals do you see there? Will they all be in the stories?

Where the Wild Things Are/Donde viven los monstruos by/de Maurice Sendak

If so, then you'll understand why you can read it many times without getting bored. Sendak is one of my favorite authors and this book is delightful because Max and the wild things are characters that you'll always have in your heart. If you haven't read it, what are you waiting for? Run and get it, sit in a confortable sofa or lie in your bed leaning on a bunch of pillows and enjoy it. Then, if you liked it, look for more of his books like In the Night Kitchen, Mummy?, and the Little Bear books written by Else Holmelund Minarik and illustrated by him. And, visit Google's page today and see the animated doodle they honored him with.

Rowling.

I love fantasy. I love witches, dragons, fairies, elfs, and dwarfs. I love mermaids and ghosts. I'm fascinated by the gods of yore and those of today. I love Ray Bradbury's books, those rewitten by P.L. Travers, who imagined Mary Poppins; those penned by C.S. Lewis, in which he told us about Narnia and its incredible creatures, and Pilip Pullman's wonderful trilogy featuring Lyra. I also love Neil Gaiman and J.K. Rowling.

Do you like fantasy as much as I do? Which are your favorite authors and books?
